GLOBAL PANTO SHAPED MODELS
Whilst the thin metal frames panto glasses were the initial models launched, the grinded and polished acetate models (“plastic”) did gain enormous popularity already at an early stage. Brands like Oliver Peoples, and Mikli have launched several panto-shaped models.
Probably most manufacturers and designers of glasses have had some more or less panto-looking models in their ranges. To meet the criteria of TRUE PANTO, the shape must meet the strict design of the six radiuses combined that the original models of the 1920 represented. The difference between “panto-look-alikes” and the real thing are interesting to observe.
The UK Algha panto was dominating in the 1970’ and -80’s. Saville Row kept the traditions of panto for decades.
Around the world, there are now so many who worship the classic models’ glasses of true panto, both for practical, esthetical, social and fashion reasons. Panto model Chicago is the true classic among the panto acetate models. Panto is probably the most recognized shape of prescription glasses on the planet – a model that will never disappear from the market.
